To write my master’s thesis, I studied the regionalized healthcare system in Southern Ontario to explore factors affecting access for mobile populations. I conducted, transcribed and analyzed in-depth, semi-structured interviews and a focus group, including participants from 4 Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs) and a Community Health Centre (CHC) in Southern Ontario. To interpret the key findings, I also reviewed relevant federal and provincial healthcare policy, such as the LHINs’ Integrated Health Service Plans (IHSPs) and regular Board Meeting minutes, as well as literature on system barriers to health care access, focusing on geographic distance and access to transportation to healthcare facilities. I received my Master of Arts in Human Geography from the University of Toronto in 2016.
